Missed the June CDCP Deadline? How to Re-Apply This Summer

If you are enrolled in the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), you might already know that the program operates on a yearly schedule. To keep your dental benefits active, the government requires an annual renewal to confirm you still meet the income and insurance criteria. The official renewal window for the current benefit year closed on June 1st. If you missed that deadline, your previous coverage officially ended on June 30th.

The most important thing to know is that you cannot "renew late" once the spring window has closed. However, this does not mean you have to go without dental care for the rest of the year. While your old coverage has wrapped up, you can still secure your benefits for the 2026–2027 cycle by submitting a brand-new application.

To re-apply this summer, your first step is ensuring your taxes are up to date. Because the government uses your tax filings to verify that your adjusted family net income remains under $90,000, you (and your spouse, if applicable) must file your tax return and receive your official Notice of Assessment (NOA) before your new application can be approved. Once your taxes are filed, you can easily submit a fresh application online through the My Service Canada Account (MSCA) portal, or by calling Service Canada directly.

Because you are re-applying rather than renewing, there will be a temporary gap in your dental coverage while your new application is processed. It is crucial to remember that any dental work you receive during this gap cannot be retroactively covered or reimbursed by the program. Your new active coverage will only begin on the official effective date assigned to you once your new application is approved. If your dental needs are not urgent, it is highly recommended to wait until your new approval letter arrives before scheduling routine treatments.
